Staff Selection Commission conducts SSC CGL EXAM every year comprising of four tiers. SSC CGL TIER 1 AND TIER 2 are conducted in online mode and SSC CGL TIER 3 is conducted in pen and paper mode. Tier 3 is a descriptive test of one hour which is conducted to analyze communication and writing skills of the candidates. It is an offline exam which comprises of essay writing or passage writing of about 250 words and an application or letter writing of about 150 words. The duration of the paper is one hour. It is a bilingual exam which can be written either in English or Hindi Medium. Tier 3 has been replaced by a descriptive exam with that of Interview session for various posts. It is a qualifying exam as score obtained in this tier and other two tiers are considered for the final merit list.        

2. Understand the marking scheme of Tier 3. It aims at language proficiency of the candidate and demands high quality of linguistic skills. Marks will be awarded on the basis of word counts and quality of language used to express the title and theme of essay or letter.
