How To Score 40+ marks in SSC CGL Reasoning?


In SSC CGL exam, the Reasoning Section is not a difficult section if one prepares smartly with full dedication and commitment. This section comprises of 25 questions where each question is of 2 marks and so this section is of 50 marks. The first important tip is to carefully read directions and details of question paper so that you can solve easily and accurately within allotted time.
The reasoning section mainly consists of 3 sections and they are: -
  • High Level
  • Visual Reasoning
  • Verbal Reasoning
To score 40+ inReasoning Section in SSC CGLTier-I, it’s important to discus all these section:
1. High Level Reasoning – It primarily comprises of Syllogism and Statement Conclusion. It is very time consuming section but questions are reasonably easier to solve. So, do a keep an eye on time, while solving this section.
2. Visual Reasoning – It comprises of topics like Figure completion, Dice, Counting of Figures, Rule Detection, Images, Pattern Completion, Mirror Images, Water Images, Figure Matrix, Paper folding, etc. It is scoring section but demands lots of practice of problems based on these topics.
3. Verbal Reasoning – It comprises of topics like Series, Ranks, Direction, Arrangements, Coding-decoding, Analogy, Classification /Odd Pair. This is the toughest section and demands detailed conceptual knowledge of every topic.
For Reasoning Ability, students should try to think in mind rather than always drawing or calculating as this strategy will work like time saving tactic for them in exam. Likewise, they should be prepared in such a way that they can imagine the answer once they see the image.
Important topics to be learnt thoroughly
1. Blood Relations
It can be confusing topic, if you have not practiced well. You can expect 2 to 3 questions but it’s important to understand the language of the question.
2. Classification & Analogies
The students can expect 4 to 5 questions from this easy looking topic. If prepared well, students can solve questions easily and accurately.
3. Verbal Analogies
The questions from this topic demands efficient vocabulary skills. Therefore, students are supposed to focus on Synonyms- Antonyms. 
4. Non-Verbal Reasoning
The questions from this topic can prove to be tricky at times and would appear in the forms of pictures, symbols or some other pictorial forms. Therefore, students should attempt mock tests on daily basis to understand the format of questions.
5. Matrix and Puzzles
The questions from this topic demands good reading speed but it is also important that students should read questions carefully. The questions can be time consuming but will be of 12th standard level. To solve questions successfully, the students should try to understand the language of questions properly. It would help them in arriving at the accurate solution in limited time.
6. Series
The questions from this topic can be difficult and so they should be regularly practiced. The students should devote at least 30 minutes daily to prepare for this topic. Likewise, quizzes and topic tests should also be attempted seriously for effective results.
